THE ORGAN CLOCK
In TCM the organ clock is a wonderful way to remind yourself of practical ways to tune into your body’s needs throughout the day. The clock works with your bodily organs and, whilst I don’t believe one needs to stick to hard rules, I have found it refreshing and useful to come back to. In essence it’s treating our body like a yearly cycle but daily. We wake in the morning, Spring like, moving into Summer (the middle of the day) and then gradually descend into Autumn throughout the afternoon and into the evening of Winter.
Waking in the middle of the night, referring back to the clock can give me an indication of what what organs might be asking for some more support. For example, if I wake between 5 and 6am, this might suggest that my kidneys and gall bladder are in need of support.
Take a look at the clock and try toget familiar with its layout. Maybe printing out a version and having it somewhere you can revert to if needed.
Let’s give a perfect scenario day to work with
6 - 7am wake, have a glass of water, go to the loo and have time to meditate
7 - 9am have breakfast and go for a gentle walk
9 – 11am great time for clear thinking and working on projects or taking more cardio style exercise
12pm have a delicious and nourishing lunch
2pm have an afternoon snooze
3 - 5pm a great time to work and focus again
6pm have a light supper
7 - 9pm read, reflect, relax
10pm get ready for sleeping, making sure you have created a lovely restful environment with no lights or tech to disturb you
11pm fast asleep and dreaming
